Read the story from our clients - South Wimbledon Rear Extension
– What is your name?
David and Lucy
– What improvement works did you do to your place?
Ground floor kitchen extension and w/c.
– What your wish list included? Did you get it?
Open plan kitchen with area for children to play and dining space. We wanted plenty of light and close connection to garden. Debbie provided multiple design options for external elevation and internal layout. She went through the options carefully, allowing us to select and build upon our favourites to come to the final design…. ultimately, we did achieve what we wanted!
– How the new design improved the way you use your place?
We have a young family, so wanted a kitchen space in which we could entertain (supervise!) the children whilst cooking but also dinner area for family meals and entertaining. Before the work, we had a separate living room (now our adult space!) and kitchen. The extension has transformed how we live as a family, the garden has become and extension of the house, allowing us to use both inside and outside space simultaneously. The children can play while we get on with the more tedious adult tasks!
– How much time do you spend now in the new part?
We spend the majority of our time in the house in the new space. It works for our daily living, providing the children with freedom to roam the extension and garden as they please.
– What do you like the most?
The external porch area and curve. This allows you to have the doors open, even when raining, and the curve funnels your vision into the garden rather then the neighbours, resulting in a sense of increased privacy for both neigbours and us… also, we think the curve looks great!
– How was the whole design experience?
Good. Debbie listened to our wishes, explained how it could be achieved and areas to consider further. Debbie and her team provided a number of designs for the external elevation and interior layout, after which, Debbie met us on several occasions to work out which best suited our needs and build upon the selected design to ensure we settled on a design that was most suited to our needs.
– If you were to give a piece of advice for the people thinking about renovating, what that will be?
When selecting your architect and contractor, try to get a sense for who you can build a good relationship with. As you will be largely relying on them throughout the (often stressful) process, a good relationship will allow you to achieve your goal with confidence.
